Do not reply to or click on links or images in unsolicited email
Two very simple rules to follow when it comes to SPAM:
- Rule #1: when you get an odd or suspicious email - even from someone you know - never open it, never click on a link in it, and never open an attachment from it. If you know the person who sent it, contact them via a different mean (telephone), and verify that they in fact sent you the email.
- Rule #2: see rule number #1.
When you click on a link or image embedded in the body of the message, your email address may be confirmed as a valid address. Also, links, images, and attachments may contain viruses or malware.
It is good practice to never respond to unsolicited email, but most spam is sent from a "spoofed" address, so if you reply directly to the email, it may be returned to you as undeliverable or go to some stranger whose email address was hijacked.
