Adult ECMO

About

Providers:
The Adult ECMO program is directed by Dr Joshua Chung. Our primary ECMO and Cannulating surgeons are Dr Joshua Chung and Dr Reza Salabat and together with CTICU intensivists they manage the care of our ECMO patients on floor 9A Cardiac ICU.

Specialists:
Our ECMO specialist team consists of both respiratory therapists and registered nurses who have several years of critical care experience. They complete several days of didactic, wet lab training and yearly competences to function as an ECMO specialist. An ECMO specialist’s primary role is to manage the ECMO machine, it’s circuit and care of the patient on ECMO. The specialists are supported by our hospital perfusionists and coordinator. To see our ECMO capacity and machine status please see our capacity map which is updated by both CH and Adult ECMO coordinators.

Cannulating Team:
Our ECMO team has the ability to cannulate a patient anywhere in the medical center building. We have a cannulating team with on call support for any ECMO needs. See our ECMO activation algorithm or contact CT surgery team. Currently our team does not travel outside the entity. Requests for ECMO outside of the medical center must go through the transfer center.
