Pediatric Genetics

Our Purpose

The Division of Pediatric Genetics provides outpatient and inpatient services to both children and adults who are referred for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Birth defects/ dysmorphic features
  • Developmental delays/ mental retardation
  • Failure to thrive/ growth problems
  • Neurological and neuromuscular problems
  • Skeletal dysplasias
  • Pervasive developmental disorders (autism)

We provide family history assessments and genetic counseling for families regarding recurrence risks for a genetic or inherited disorder. This includes assessments after a stillbirth, fetal loss or death of a child. We provide patients and families with information on the diagnosis, when one is made, on support groups and we coordinate available testing, both clinical and research. We also provide cancer genetic counseling for individuals who are at risk for a cancer predisposition syndrome.

Pediatric Genetics also provides services to thee clinics in the Specialty Team Centers

  • Craniofacial clinic
  • Cystic fibrosis clinic (newborn screening)
  • Spina bifida clinic
