ID Inpatient Service
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Infectious Diseases Division is to serve our colleagues & our patients. We aspire to advance the scope of care in patients who have, or appear to have Infectious Diseases. As part of comprehensive patient care, we offer our skills in ‘Mystery Solving’ and our Epidemiologic World View as a roadmap to appropriate treatment with, or de-escalation of antimicrobials. Together we make a difference in patient care and safety.
Education
Here at Loma Linda University Health, education is a primary pillar as we invest in the future of Medicine. The ID Division is dedicated to participating in student, resident, and fellow education. Internal Medicine categorical and preliminary residents are encouraged to participate in a one-month selective rotation in Infectious Diseases. Opportunities for MS3 & MS4 students are also available for a 1 week and 4-week rotation, respectively. During that time learners will see a plethora of pathology from cellulitis & endocarditis to invasive fungal infections and HIV, for example. They will also have an opportunity to rotate with both the General & Transplant ID teams. Learners will engage in dedicated lectures, resident and faculty driven case conference & journal club, microbiology rounds, and a tour through the micro lab. They will be provided with a curated packet outlining required reading of high yield topics that will be seen on board exams as well as expectations for the ID rotation. We are excited to have a part in your medical education!
Research
The LLU ID Division faculty members are enthusiastic about mentoring learners in their research endeavors and are continuously thinking of new ways to support research. Our Division has participated in in large randomized controlled clinical trials such as the NIH Adaptive Platform Treatment Trial for Outpatients with COVID-19 (Adapt Out COVID) and the GS-US-528-9023 Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Study from the pharmaceutical company, Gilead.
