Physician Builder Program

Our goal is to develop a best-practice platform to deliver the highest level of care for our patients. Because national surveys show that there is a greater satisfaction in the use of the Electronic Health Record when physicians and providers have the tools to customize their systems, we have built the following framework to encourage communication channels, to foster the growth and development in the skills needed to place control and ownership of this at the individual, division, department, and institutional levels.

The following are currently the roles and opportunities we have for learning more about capabilities and opportunities we have for physicians and providers.  Please click on the Training Page for more additional opportunities for training.

  • Subject Matter Experts or "SMEs" are those physicians, nurses, or administrative staff who have been designated as the persons to be contacted first by the LLEAP team as well as those physicians, providers, and nursing and/or clinic support staff who may have questions on their group's use of LLEAP.  The SME is expected to have an understanding of current trends, events, and tips and tricks on how to use LLEAP effectively and efficiently.  To send your SME(s) an email or review the current list of SME(s) for each respective clinical service, open the General Outlook Address Book and type in “mc sme “ for a listing or to send that group an email.
  • Epic Power User Program. An eight-session, on-line, CME-accredited class administered by Epic Systems. Most classes are Thursdays and Fridays and they will frequently have about three available time slots on each day to maximize the efficiency if the learner wants to block out single, whole days to devote to these classes. Register here: https://training.epic.com/Registrations/Classes. For additional questions, email Epic- PowerUserTraining@epic.com
  • Department Deputies undergo focused training in topics including the building of system SmartTexts, SmartLists, SmartPhrases, as well as Outpatient SmartSets. (note that I would also like them to have access to build and maintain diagnosis preference lists)  After completing Department Deputy training, they will be granted access to build and maintain these tools for their services. Eligibility to be determined by Department Chair/Service Chief and Chief Medical Information Officer. For additional information email: TrainingDepartment@llu.edu
  • Epic Physician Builder Program. There are several tracks such as Clinical Data Model, Pathologist, Radiology, Analytics, Anesthesia, and Healthy Planet but typically involves at least two sessions on separate weeks on the Epic Systems campus in Wisconsin.  Review the goals and expectations of being an Epic Physician Builder at LLUH. Eligibility to be supported by Department Chair/Service Chief and reviewed by the Chief Medical Information Officer with discussion with the Medical Informatics Liaison Officers and the Chief Information Officer.  For additional information about the Epic options go to https://training.epic.com.  To nominate yourself or another physician/provider, email the current CMIO: Jeffrey Kim, MD (JLKim@llu.edu)
    • Upon completion of the Epic Physician Builder program and certification, a complete orientation will be provided so that each builder will understand the various aspects of building and maintaining our LLEAP system.  Keep in mind that responsibilities may extend beyond the builder’s service line and department.

Note that if you have not established an Epic Userweb Account, go to https://userweb.epic.com/Account/Register/ and create a unique user ID and password for the Userweb.
