Don't open email from unknown sources
It’s late, you’re tired and getting ready to relax – but just as your about to, there’s a knock on your front door. Would you open the door to your home without looking to see who it is?
Of course not!
E-mail is the same - if you don't know the person sending you an email, be very careful about opening it and any file attached to it. Examine the FROM: field with particular skepticism. “To” and “From” information can be spoofed/ forged.
What to do?
Should you receive a suspicious email, the best thing to do is to delete the entire message, including any attachments.
Even if you do know the person sending you the email, you should exercise caution if the message is strange and unexpected, particularly if it contains unusual hyperlinks or appears suspicious. You can always contact the sender via telephone to verify that they in fact have sent you an email with the content in question.
