What are the Effects of Radiation?

Often when people think about radiation effects, they think of those most commonly associated with high level exposures: cancer, sterility, nausea, birth defects, etc. If radiation exposure is maintained within the limits set by State and Federal regulations, there are NO OBSERVABLE EFFECTS. The Radiation Safety Program at LLU/LLUMC typically maintains radiation exposure at levels MUCH LESS than those allowed by the regulations. In other words, radiation exposures are maintained As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).
