Ambulance & Medical Transportation Companies

Ambulance and Medical Transportation Companies

Designated personnel may communicate with ambulance or medical transportation companies to facilitate care and treatment for the patient as well as for payment for services rendered to the patient. For quality assurance purposes, designated personnel may also occasionally need to share clinical outcomes and patient information relevant to the care and treatment the ambulance or medical transportation company rendered to the patient in order for the ambulance or medical transportation company to evaluate clinical protocols to enhance and promote quality patient care.

Transportation Companies (Non-Medical)

Protected health information (PHI) must not be shared with non-medical transportation companies without a valid written authorization from the patient or the patient's legal representative. Transportation companies must not be used to carry or transport a patient's medical record without first having the patient or patient's legal representative sign an authorization for the transport of the record via the transportation company.
