Law Enforcemnent Officers

Balancing a law enforcement officer’s need to protect the community and to do his or her job with the patient’s right to privacy can be a challenging task. Just as there are many different reasons why a law enforcement officer might need protected health information (PHI), there are varying conditions that might alter the response we give to a specific law enforcement officer’s request. Refer to policy for direction on responding to requests for information on topics such as police cases, victims of rape or sexual molestation and incarcerated patients. To ensure law enforcement officers are appropriately serviced, law enforcement officer inquiries must be routed and addressed by management or other designated personnel.
