Modes of Radioactive Decay

There are several ways by which an unstable atom can change to a more stable configuration. The most common are: decay by emission of alphas, negative betas (electrons), positive betas (positrons or positive electrons), and/or gammas and electron capture. Frequently, more than one of these processes will occur during a single decay event. Let's look at the various radioactive decay processes more closely.
