Introduction

Radiology is the branch of medicine that involves the use of radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This booklet focuses on the use of ionizing radiation as it is employed in patient diagnosis. Not covered here are MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Ultrasound, and Radiation Oncology.

The two main areas of interest for this booklet are diagnostic x-ray and nuclear radiology. These two areas account for more than 75% of all occupational radiation exposure in the health care industry.
