LLU Pediatrics Portfolio Sponsor Committee

Dr. Fong is the chair of the LLU Pediatrics Portfolio Sponsor Committee. In the past, he has served on LLUCH’s Patient Safety and Reliability Committee. He enjoys teaching quality improvement and patient safety to residents and medical students. He is currently working on projects to improve vaccination compliance in children under two years of age, increasing success of contacting patients and contact information verification, and developing quality improvement capacity in front line workers in the clinic.

Having practiced Neonatology for many years, in both academic and private settings, I have seen many improvements in our care.

Among these improvements has been the control of CLABSI infections and rationalization of antibiotic usage. I have participated in 2 statewide CPQCC QI collaboratives, on CLABSI prevention and on Antibiotic Stewardship. The methods of quality improvement proved to be a powerful way to effect long lasting improvements in these collaboratives.

The ABP requires QI participation for MOC, and the Loma Linda Pediatrics Department has taken the initiative in facilitating this for physicians by forming this committee to review, improve, and certify for MOC credit the QI projects originated within the department.

It is an honor for me to participate on this committee and work alongside our amazing committee members.
