American Red Cross

According to the Office for Civil Rights, under HIPAA, designated personnel may share information about a patient's condition with the American Red Cross for the Red Cross to provide emergency communications services for members of the U.S. military, such as notifying service members of family illness or death, including verifying such illnesses for emergency leave requests. For calls received from the Red Cross to verify patient illness, obtain information from the Red Cross such as the patient's name, the service member's name and relationship to the patient prior to verifying the patient's illness.
