The online RN to BS track is designed for students looking to earn a bachelor’s degree and open the door to greater job opportunities. Under the guidance and instruction of our expert and caring faculty, students are able to investigate new areas of professional interest along with enhancing their personal and professional growth.

This program is for registered nurses who wish to complete their BS degree. It prepares students for professional nursing in both acute and community settings. The LLU RN to BS online program was designed with full-time working professionals in mind. As such, the program offers the flexibility of part-time or full-time enrollment and the convenience of online learning.

In 2016, Linda Soubirous (CNO), partnered with Dr. Joanna Shedd (Executive Director) and Andreia Lofthouse (Executive Directors, SON) under the direction of DR. Elizabeth Bossert (Dean), in order to bring the RN to BS program to the Murrieta hospital campus.

The Doctorate of Nursing Practice program provides students with the training necessary to translate knowledge gained through nursing research into quality nursing practice.

We encourage DNP graduates to apply the evidence from their nursing research to improve systems, quality and safety of care to ultimately impact healthy patient outcomes.

Obtaining a Doctorate of Nursing Practice may help position you for leadership roles in clinical practice. Many administrative, management, and executive level roles in a clinical setting are held by individuals with a DNP degree.

Currently, four of Murrieta nurses are working to complete their DNPs at Loma Linda SON. Please see examples of their projects below: Evleyn Kelly, Jose Lupan (cath lab-armotherpay), and Roxanna Stead (CCRT-intervention to reduce insulin related hypoglycemia).

Hello, my name is Roxanna Stead. I obtained my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2022. For my research project as a DNP student, I posed this question, “Among hospitalized patients, what is the effect of a tool that identifies hypoglycemia risk factors, compared with no tool, in reducing hypoglycemia events in hospitalized patients, at eight weeks after pilot implementation?” In order to address this question, I created a project titled, “Assess, adjust, and adapt: A three-step plan to prevent hypoglycemia in hospitalized patients.”

The aims of the project were to reduce the number of hypoglycemia events among hospitalized patients by introducing a tool to screen for hypoglycemia risk factors, assess the base knowledge of the participants, and evaluate the effectiveness and relevancy of the education that was provided to the participants. The background for the project is that there is no existing tool to screen for hypoglycemia risk factors at LLUMC-Murrieta. The project was implemented on the 4th floor Medical-Telemetry unit with a total of 38 registered nurse participants. The participants filled out surveys, evaluations, and watched a short PowerPoint about hypoglycemia and how to screen for hypoglycemia risk factors using the Hypoglycemia Risk Stratification Tool.

The results of the project showed a decrease in hypoglycemic events on the 4th floor and a significant increase in the participant’s knowledge about hypoglycemia risk factors. The results of the project demonstrated that the hypoglycemic risk stratification tool or a similar tool would be beneficial in reducing the number of hypoglycemia events among hospitalized patients.

CHF passport was developed to help patients control their comorbidity better, increase self-efficacy, and decrease readmissions to our hospital. The benchmark for Murrieta and readmissions is above the national average per CMS. and way higher than main campus.

Problem: LLU Murrieta doesn’t have formal training on chronic diseases like CHF. There is room for improvement in that population
Education: 50 RNs assessed on CHF knowledge with a validated tool from Cleveland clinic.

Adapted CHF education PowerPoint from main campus core team and delivered it to RNs. Posttest. Results show there’s an increase of knowledge. Trained nurses to familiarize with the CHF passports and provide it to patients on daily basis throughout hospital stay.
