Required Disclosures

In certain cases, healthcare providers are mandated or required to communicate or release information, without patient authorization, to satisfy local, state or federal law. Examples of when a healthcare provider must communicate or release information without patient authorization include communicating contagious diseases, births and deaths to the county and releasing medical charts to governmental agencies for audits. For more information on required disclosures, go to HIPAA Learning Module Using & Disclosing Health Information.
