When facing the unknown, the human spirit responds across a spectrum of behaviors. Some profess braveness and move on with life. Others withdraw and try to carefully follow every direction. Rumors abound and advice is shared freely, whether reliable or not. The fears from this pandemic carry a double-edged sword — fear for our own health and safety, as well as fears of its financial impact on ourselves, LLUH, our country and the world. None of us can predict the severity or duration of this pandemic.

New guidelines for healthcare employees

As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, new guidance has become available regarding additional steps we will be taking to keep our employees and patients safe. Our commitment to protecting our workforce and patients remains a top priority and we will act in accordance with new guidelines as they emerge.

Facial Hair Restriction

In light of our current situation with COVID-19, it has become necessary to change practice and policy to ensure we are all taking action to avoid exposure and the spread of the virus.  Effective immediately, any facial hair that impedes the seal of an N95 respirator mask will need to be shaved if you are to remain at work.

Hospital Entrance Changes

In continuing efforts to manage and screen the public and employees at access points into the Medical Center and Children’s Hospital, we have taken the following actions effective immediately:

Visitor Restrictions

For the safety of our patients and staff, we will no longer be allowing visitors in any of our adult hospitals effective March 20. Humanitarian exceptions will be allowed. 

Children’s Hospital will allow two approved visitors per patient, although they must rotate and cannot be in the facility at the same time.
