Cloud Computing Solutions

Cloud computing is trending term in information systems lately. There is a lot of concern about security, location, and accessibility of what is called the “cloud” to those handling data. Cloud computing essentially means that data or applications are stored on servers or in a database somewhere other than the organization that is doing the cloud computing. Other organizations offer cloud computing services to those seeking cloud solutions, either for the sake of space, cost savings, or accessibility. These organizations may host the data in their own server or database center, or may act as a liaison to other data centers that are looking to rent out server space. This comes as an advantage to an organization when there are large amounts of data that need to be stored. One of the main benefits of cloud computing is the lack of storage space required either for applications or for data. Additionally, the cloud allows for data or applications to be securely accessed from multiple locations, which is useful as business becomes more mobile. One of the primary cloud computing solutions on campus is the Epic system. This cloud computing system stores and manages patient information securely and within compliance regulations as outlined by HIPAA.
