Accidents & Towing

Any driver that is involved in an accident is required to notify their supervisor immediately after the accident occurs. An accident is defined as:

Accident - Any incident in which the vehicle comes in contact with another vehicle, person, object, or animal, which results in death, personal injury, or property damage, regardless of who was injured, what was damaged or to what extent, where it occurred or who was responsible.

Mandatory DOT Reporting

• An occurrence involving a commercial motor vehicle operating on a highway in interstate or intrastate commerce and or transportation of passengers
• A fatality
• Bodily injury to a person who, as a result of the injury immediately receives medical treatment away from the scene of the accident; or
• One or more of the vehicles incurring disabling damage as a result of the accident, requiring the motor vehicle to be transported away from the scene by a tow truck or other motor vehicle

Notification

It is the policy of this organization that all accidents be reported if they meet the description of an accident as set forth above. The following departments are to be notified at the time the accident occurs, once all parties are safe, Security Department if the accident occurred on property owned and/or operated by the organization.

Fleet Management Department no matter where the accident occurred. Fleet Management will arrange for tow services as needed and secure the repair of the vehicle as needed.

Risk Management Department no matter where the accident occurred. They will notify the organizations insurance company and open a claim to assure timely repairs.

Should an organization vehicle be disabled as a result of any accident said vehicle will be towed to the Fleet Services office, there are no exceptions to this policy.
