Manager / Supervisor

Competence Assessment is a term given to how you evaluate your employee’s ability to acquire knowledge and apply it safely and efficiently to their assigned tasks. Select 1 – 2 annual competency assessments for your staff, based on one or more of the following criteria:

  • Low Volume - meaning the knowledge or task is not frequently utilized or completed
  • High Risk - to the patient and/or staff
  • Problem Prone

Mandatory house wide competencies are frequently a method of getting all the employees “up-to-date” with new information. This “new” information is then incorporated into orientations, skills check lists, BLUE, core classes, etc. Once the information is incorporated into other venues, these competencies are no longer required for new hires or annually for all staff members, but are available to use as needed for additional training.

Method:
  • Inform your staff of their individual Requirements assigned by you or supervisor in OWL
  • Competencies will be completed online
    • Online tests are graded automatically
    • Results are automatically stored in the employee’s history in OWL
    • Request a new OWL number roster from the OWL team
      • If this is an annual department specific competency, new OWL number requests must be submitted annually by each department
    • Place copy of post-test in departmental employee file
    • Post completion results in OWL
