Construction

Design and planning for renovation and new construction projects includes active participation from Clinical Epidemiology and Infection Prevention. Early involvement in the conceptual phase helps ascertain the risk for susceptible patient location and disruption of essential patient services. In addition, proactive design to mitigate environmental sources of microbes and prevention of infection through architectural design (e.g. hand washing facilities, separation of patients with communicable diseases) as well as specific needs of the population served by the facility.
