The Advanced Practice Services (APS) Department provides culturally competent, individualized advanced nursing care to age-specific populations across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient health care services. Whole-person care is continuous, comprehensive, and is determined by and reflective of the characteristics of specific patient populations in a variety of patient care settings. Advanced clinical nursing care is provided using a collaborative practice framework that integrates the medical model and nursing theories and involves physicians, patients, families, significant others, nurses, and other health care team members.

Frequent Procedures / Services/ Functions
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) perform functions pursuant to Standardized Procedures that are approved by administration, medicine, nursing, and Medical Staff By-Laws/Rules and Regulations. Specific role functions are determined by scope of practice within APN classification and include collaborating with attending physicians to provide:

Coordination of care and documenting care provided in the medical record

Education to patients, families, significant others and other health care team members

Performance of health history and physical exam

Interpretation of diagnostic studies and other clinical data

Development of diagnostic and treatment plans

Ordering of medications, therapies and ancillary specialty consultations

Education on disease prevention

Performance of approved designated standardized procedure techniques

Participation in development of standards of care, policies, protocols, techniques, guidelines and standardized procedures
