  • Provide post-award management and compliance oversight conforming to sponsor requirements
  • Assist investigators with management of projects, including purchase requisitions, rate slips, student financial aid, expense transfers, equipment management, invoicing, and financial reporting
  • Provide direct oversight of subawardees and perform subreceipient monitoring activities, audits, and federal subaward reporting
  • Manage project revenue, deposits, and federal letter of credit draws
  • Calculate and distribute monthly overhead to projects and schools
  • Perform sponsored award closeouts, assembling and submitting financial documentation, certifications and reports to sponsors
  • Monitor and manage time and effort reporting for sponsored award personnel
  • Assist investigators with adherence to sponsor terms and federal regulations
  • Perform, facilitate, and assist with required audits
  • Develop and revise research policies and procedures in compliance with sponsor and institutional rules and regulations
  • Develop and implement electronic financial management tools and applications

 Industrial Relations

  • Assist investigators in preparing invention disclosures and provide guidance and education to investigators on intellectual property matters and copyright protections
  • Oversee institutional decision-making regarding intellectual property through the operation of the Intellectual Property Committee
  • Manage and oversee patent prosecution activities, patent royalty income, law firm invoices, patent expenses, and post-patent filing services
  • Review and negotiate intellectual property terms in research related contracts
  • Provide market services for inventions/discoveries to potential licensees
  • Provide guidance in startup company planning, faculty consultations and institutional management
  • Assist investigators and internal team members in processing sponsored projects and research related agreements
  • Redline, draft, and negotiate agreements, including data transfer, clinical trial, grant, confidentiality, and material transfer agreements and work with general counsel and internal stakeholders for institutional approval(s)
  • Review terms and conditions to ensure agreements align with LLUH policies and procedures, federal and compliance guidelines
  • Review and develop agreement budgets, financial forms, and obtain institutional approvals on documentation
  • Create and maintain IP/agreement database
  • Verify project related approvals with the IRB and IACUC, as necessary
  • In consultation with general counsel, advise and assist investigators and staff with agreement and/or legal related questions
  • Train internal staff and researchers on processes and agreement requirements

 n3Eight

  • Assist in the design and construction of research wet laboratory and office space for startup companies
  • Provide ongoing management of research lab space, to include daily operations, tenant management, and equipment/facility maintenance and repairs
  • Advise on the company’s incorporation process, shareholders’ agreement and articles of incorporation
  • Facilitate access to outside professionals, such as accountants, attorneys and consultants who are able to assist startups at no cost or at discounted rates
  • Facilitate relationships with local economic development agencies
  • Provide access to mentors and a network of successful professionals who provide expertise to enhance credibility of the startup within the business community
  • Offer regular seminars, training sessions, and round table discussions on practical topics relating to grant writing, financial planning, capital acquisition, strategic business planning, and organizational development taught by attorneys, bankers, consultants and other incubator sponsors
  • Assist startups in preparing and submitting SBIR and STTR grants
  • Facilitate access to capital sources such as banks, venture capitalists, angel investors, and corporate strategic partners
  • Help clients negotiate strategies, perform due diligence, and make structure deals 

 Human Research & Compliance

  • Investigate research related complaints and concerns
  • Perform routine and for-cause research process audits in all entities to verify adherence to protocols and design correction plans, as necessary
  • Contribute to research regulatory committees (e.g., Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, Research Conflict of Interest Committee, Institutional Review Board);
  • Represents research on the Privacy and Security Oversight Committee (PSOC)
  • Identify and communicate potential challenges and changes in regulations and collaborate with research administration to assure compliance
  • Coordinate and deliver required human subject research education
  • Review clinicaltrials.gov submissions, ensure research results are entered and that any queries and issues from review staff are appropriately answered and resolved
  • Contribute to Human Research Protection Program accreditation
  • Manage the research conflict of interest submission process and evaluation of investigator significant financial interest disclosures
  • Guide investigators in the review of human research proposals by the IRB
  • Assist investigators with HIPAA compliance in research
  • Support investigators in compliance with federal regulations and institutional policy for human research
  • Contribute to the development of institutional policies and procedures, in accord with the accreditation of human protection programs
  • Maintain institutional databases for human research
  • Provide web tools for investigators conducting human subject’s research
  • Prepare reports requested by institutional administrators

 Research Safety and Animal Welfare

  • Guide investigators in reviewing the use of animals, stem cells, and recombinant DNA
  • Support investigators in compliance with federal regulations and institutional policy for animal research, recombinant and synthetic nucleic acids, and stem cells
  • Contribute to the development of institutional policies and procedures, in accord with the accreditation of animal welfare
  • Maintain institutional databases for activities above
  • Provide web tools for investigators
  • Prepare reports requested by institutional administrators and federal agencies

Animal Care Facility

  • Provides for the care and well-being of animals used for research
  • Provides animal husbandry, veterinary care and other technical support services for animals used in research
  • Provides training in laboratory animal care and use
  • Provides procurement services for research animal models and veterinary drugs and supplies
  • Coordinates import / export of research animals to and from LLU
  • Provides administrative support for the animal care and use occupational health and safety program

Research Consulting Group

  • Provide quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting
  • Determine research study design and sample size
  • Consultation on survey instrument development
  • Data management, entry, coding, and archiving
  • Manuscript publication preview

Adventist Health Study

  • Provide content materials for health education
  • Provide educational opportunities for faculty and graduate students in advanced statistical applications to nutritional epidemiology
  • Provide data sets for graduate dissertations
  • Provide plasma, serum, and urine samples for biomarker studies in a population sample
  • Provide post-doctoral student research opportunities, particularly, but not exclusively, directed toward Adventist applicants
