ASK
Step 1: Formulate a well-built question.
Consisting of the following components:
PICOT
- Population/Patient/Problem
- Intervention
- Comparison

ACQUIRE
Step 2: ID articles and other evidence-based resources that answer the question.

APPRAISE
Step 3: Critically appraise the existing evidence to assess its validity.
Use the following criteria to appraise your evidence:
| Level of Evidence | Description |
|---|---|
| Level I | Meta-analysis of multiple randomized controlled studies or established clinical practice guidelines |
| Level II | Individual experimental studies |
| Level III | Quasi-experimental studies |
| Level IV | Descriptive, comparative, correlational studies, and qualitative work |
| Level V | Program evaluation, quality or performance improvement projects, case reports |
| Level VI | Opinions of respected authorities or of an expert committee, including their interpretation of non-research-based information |
APPLY
Step 4: Apply the evidence.
- Obtain pre-data to serve as baseline.
- Implement intervention.
ASSESS
Step 5: Re-evaluate the application of evidence & areas for improvement.
- Obtain post-data to evaluate effectiveness of intervention.
- Identify areas for improvement, if needed.
