Clinical Nurse C (CN-C)
Stage: “Competent”

Definition: A CN-C is considered Competent1: This nurse begins to see actions in terms of long-range goals or plans. This nurse serves as a resource for the department and is able to demonstrate efficiency, coordination, and has confidence in their actions. Patient care is completed within a suitable time frame without supporting cues.
The CN-C level builds on the CN-B level with:
- Completion of a minimum of 75 points from the point CN-C tally sheet.
- Note: Points are only valid if collected within the last 2 years of application submission date, unless otherwise indicated in appendices
- Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience to apply for CN-C status. Nursing years of experience at another hospital/healthcare organization will be accepted.
Note: Once an applicant has received CN-C status, the expectation is a minimum performance of a 3.0 on the annual evaluation scale.
Schedule of Portfolio Submission and Notification Timeline for CN-C’s
- Since Clinical Nurse C’s DO NOT require an interview, completed portfolios will be accepted at any time. Please review the requirements to apply for a CN-C and schedule a meeting with your manager to review your intent to apply. You may also email Magnet@llu.edu for additional questions.
Process of application:
- Voluntarily initiates appointment with nurse manager/department head to review tally sheet & questions.
- Typed Portfolio or Black ink on all documents.
- Submits portfolio to nurse manager/department head including:
- Cover Letter and Résumé
- Completed Tally Sheet
- Self-evaluation and peer reviews (appendix L, M and N)
- Original copies of all supporting documents (including copy of last annual performance evaluation)
