Mentorship Program
The Mentorship Program is voluntary and was established to encourage employees to take ownership of professional growth. The program involves one-to-one interaction with a mentor, employs the mentor’s experience and achievements and will assist the mentee in acquiring knowledge, skill and behaviors reflective of professional development. Participation in the program is voluntary and designed to provide tools to establish, keep track of and evaluate the mentorship process. Mentors provide encouragement to strengthen, enrich and support mentees through role modeling, nurturing and guidance.
Completed mentor profiles for Managers, Directors, Executive Directors, and Clinical Nurse Officers for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) and Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) may be reviewed on the SharePoint site under Professional Nursing Practice Portal, Mentor Program, documents, mentor profiles.
Completed mentor profiles for Clinical Nurse, Educator, Supervisor, Charge Nurse, please talk to your unit manager or director for obtaining mentor profiles for your review or to submit. Mentor Profiles are available to staff who wish to learn more about the mentors at LLUH. Please visit the Mentors List to view the mentor profiles.
Mentorship Programs:
Clinical Nurse
The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Mentoring program is to encourage the newest members of the team to assimilate into their nursing role. Our aim is to nurture new hires to develop confidence and resiliency in order to navigate the fast pace and high demands required to grow and thrive during their first six to 12 months as a clinical nurse. Participation is voluntary. The mentoring program involves interaction between mentor and mentee, and employs the mentor’s experience, commitment and support to support the mentee and promote professional growth. Educator
The purpose of the Nurse Educator mentorship program is to encourage newly hired educator to take ownership of their own professional growth by focusing on specific and concrete goals to accomplish during the first year of their new role. The areas of focus in the mentoring model are learning, teaching, practice, research, career, and leadership. These are referred to as the key pillars or the foundation for program. The program involves direct interaction with mentor, employs the mentor’s experience and achievements and will assist the mentee in acquiring knowledge and professional development. At LLUH, our leadership is committed to further integration of our values within our mentorship program
Nurse Manager
The purpose of the Nurse Manager mentorship program is to encourage newly hired nurse managers to take ownership of their own professional growth by focusing on specific and concrete goals to accomplish during the first year of their new role. The areas of focus in the mentoring model are learning, teaching, practice, research, career, and leadership. These are referred to as the key pillars or the foundation for program. Nurse Director
The purpose of the Nurse Director mentorship program is to encourage newly hired nurse managers to take ownership of their own professional growth by focusing on specific and concrete goals to accomplish during the first year of their new role. The areas of focus in the mentoring model are learning, teaching, practice, research, career, and leadership. These are referred to as the key pillars or the foundation for program. The program involves direct interaction with mentor, employs the mentor’s experience and achievements and will assist the mentee in acquiring knowledge and professional development. APRN
The purpose of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) mentoring program is to encourage the APRN to take ownership of their own professional growth by focusing on concrete goals to accomplish during their orientation and track progress through annual evaluations. The areas of focus in the mentoring model are learning, teaching, practice, research, career, and leadership. These are referred to as the key pillars or the foundation for program. The program involves direct interaction with mentor, employs the mentor’s experience and achievements and will assist the mentee in acquiring knowledge and professional development.

- Mentor Readiness Survey
- Formal Mentor Training Program Class (CE1613) – Register on OWL Portal
Through the mentoring partnership, the mentee and mentor are required to:
- Sign a Mentor Agreement Form
- Review the Mentee Needs Assessment
- Establish and implement an Individual Learning Plan “ILP” with written goals and objectives, unique to each category
- Evaluate the mentor using the Mentorship Effectiveness Scale
