Neonatal Case #2
Case Presentation
39 week Hispanic female infant delivered by C-section with normal Apgar scores. Uncomplicated pregnancy and mom received good prenatal care. No maternal drug use during the pregnancy. Infant was vigorous at birth in no distress. The following skin lesions were noted at birth. "Tests" were ordered by the pediatrician and the infant was discharged home at 2 DOL. Seen at one week of age by the follow up pediatrician who recommended that the infant go to the ER for further evaluation. The infant was afebrile, breast feeding well, and appeared well.
Labs:
WBC: 7,200: neutrophils 8% bands 1% lymphs 19% Eos 69%
Hct: 46%
Platelets: 195,000
Blood cx: neg; VDRL NR; nml electrolytes, liver and renal function tests all wnl
