Our Purpose

Who We Are

Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOC) nurses are highly prepared expert clinicians who specialize in the care of patients with wounds, ostomies, or continence disorders. WOC nurses’ primary responsibilities are to direct, coordinate, and evaluate patient care in the area(s) of their expertise. Specific functions include direct patient care, consultation, staff and patient education, and maintenance of an evidence-based practice through use of and participation in research studies. Recommendations for care management are evidence-based, cost-effective, and individualized for the specific patient situations.  (wocn.org)

Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (wocn.org)

We are registered nurses Board Certified by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) in the specialties of wound, ostomy, and/or continence care.

What We Do

We are a consult-based service for patients admitted to Loma Linda Troesh Medical Center & Children’s Hospital, Loma Linda University East Campus Hospital and Acute Rehab, Loma Linda University Behavioral Medical Center, and Loma Linda University Surgical Hospital.

At LLUH, WOC nurses assess difficult wounds, ostomies, and some skin issues, and make recommendations for care and treatment; perform wound NPWT changes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday,  or as ordered; and provide education and instruction for all new ostomy patients and their families prior to discharge.
