Addressing the crisis: Youth mental health at Loma Linda University Behavioral Health

At Loma Linda University Behavioral Health (LLUBH), our youth teams are dedicated to restoring harmony and hope in children’s lives. We provide care in a safe, encouraging, and healing environment, offering a full range of behavioral health services for children ages 8-13 and adolescents ages 14-17 experiencing mental, emotional, or behavioral problems.
LLUBH treats a wide array of conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, substance abuse, OCD, and bipolar disorder. Our approach integrates the mind-body connection to enhance children’s overall functioning and quality of life.
These figures highlight the essential work of our youth team. We are incredibly proud of their dedication to providing vital mental health services to young people in our community, ensuring they receive the care and support they need to thrive.
Our team actively engages with the community through school visits, mental health fairs, and collaborations with local organizations, extending their impact beyond our facility’s walls. Their commitment has significantly improved the lives of many young people and their families, fostering a supportive environment where mental health can flourish.
Youth mental health is a pressing issue, with alarming statistics revealing:
- 1 in 5 adolescents experiences a mental health disorder each year.
- 50% of lifetime mental illness cases begin by age 14, and 75% by age 24.
- Suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-24.
The growing prevalence of mental health issues among young people underscores the urgent need for comprehensive mental health services. Early intervention is crucial, as untreated mental health disorders can lead to long-term consequences, affecting academic performance, social relationships, and overall quality of life. Addressing these challenges early can prevent more severe issues in adulthood and promote healthier, more productive lives.
Thank you to our youth services teams for your dedication to the well-being of our youth. Your efforts are building a healthier, more resilient future generation.
