LLUH recognized by RFID industry for supply chain tracking

Loma Linda University Health’s Supply Chain Team and the International Heart Institute have been recognized for successfully using radio frequency identification technology (RFID) to achieve full visibility in its supply chain, achieving advanced tracking of all medical products.

The recognition was presented last month at the RFID Journal Live show, an annual event presented by the RFID industry that highlights companies in various industries that have used the technology to increase company performance and reduce costs.

The International Heart Institute first implemented radio a frequency tracking system in 2017. As products are tagged with a tracking device and each supply or procedure room, a zonal RFID reader captures the tag’s unique ID, which is linked to details about that product. Readers are also installed in hallways to capture tagged items moving from one zone to another.

Loma Linda University Health is also applying RFID tags to consumable medical supplies used in cardiac cath labs, such as stents, structural heart valves, skin grafts, balloons, and specialized catheters.

Congratulations to our teams!
