Transportation Services play key role in LLUH daily operations
Shared Services’ Transportation Services department plays an important role in Loma Linda University Health’s daily operations. The department is responsible for shuttle services between facilities, door to door VIP transportation, airport transport, special event transportation services, adult day care users, and driver training. Department drivers also help transport pharmaceuticals, lab samples and organ transplant tissue (blood, tissue, etc.) and transplant teams on a timely basis from other hospitals in the Southern California region or arriving via air transport services.
The department’s team of 17 works under the direction of Whitney Henderson. The department’s fleet includes 14 vehicles ranging from small vans up to three 25 passenger shuttle buses. Two wheelchair accessible vehicles are available. The eight regular shuttle drivers and seven commercial drivers operate transportation services over five shuttle routes (map available for download) serving LLUH locations across Loma Linda. Route operational hours vary slightly depending on demand, but all routes are served from early morning until evening.
During the last fiscal year, the shuttles served more than 32,000 passengers, nearly 500 VIP trips, 131 airport trips, and had more than 1,300 specimen deliveries. The 303 time-sensitive transplant trips included moving transplant teams 73 times, and retrieving organs 230 times.
The success of many LLUH special events also depends on the department’s services. The shuttle vans are most frequently seen during homecoming, the University open house, and employee recognition events. Shuttle services also supported the COVID vaccination clinics held in the Drayson Center during the pandemic.
Transportation Service's efforts helps reduce the number of cars on the road during the busiest times of day. Their efforts allow Loma Linda University Health to operate more efficiently, and help make the City of Loma Linda's environment less crowded.
