Meet our Medical Laboratory Professionals

Loma Linda University Health’s Medical Laboratory Professionals make an impact on diagnostic medicine throughout the organization, often working behind the scenes around the clock to provide a myriad of tests, diagnostic results, and as of late, even creating their own collection and testing supplies.
During the pandemic and supply chain shortages, the dedication, innovation, and creativity of each team member to continue supporting lab operations despite these challenges highlighted the dedication of each employee. All 350 laboratory team members play an integral role.
LLUH’s Medical Laboratory Professionals come from a variety of backgrounds. Some hold clinical laboratory science licenses to provide bench-based testing, while others hold phlebotomy licenses that allow them to draw blood and collect samples from patients for testing. Many hold master’s degrees, and a few have earned a doctorate in their area of focus.
The laboratory is a unique microcosm within healthcare. It utilizes people with a broad spectrum of interests and skills. In addition to people trained in science, the laboratory requires individuals cross-trained with business backgrounds, technology specialties, and process engineering. Some team members even specialize in regulatory and accreditation matters in addition to holding a Clinical Laboratory Science license.
The clinical laboratory team serving LLUH is extensive and includes laboratories at LLU Medical Center, East Campus, Surgical Hospital, Murrieta Hospital, Beaumont/Highland Springs, Caroline Street and Children’s Hospital. The team also provides localized licensed point-of-care testing for a number of outpatient collections centers and ancillary clinics.
Here are a few fun facts you may not know about this innovative team.
- Supply chain shortages didn’t stop them. Supply chain issues during the pandemic caused delays in receiving much-needed equipment, so the team came together to create their own collection kits using the resources they could find.
- They are dedicated. Team members signed up for additional overtime and created an environment that fostered innovation when our community needed it the most. This innovation and teamwork were made possible through daily meetings wherein the team addressed their needs, thought through obstacles, and created a game plan to serve patients better.
- Your donations helped them. Healthcare entities across the nation faced severe blood shortages. LLUH was no exception. Fortunately, our employees, faculty, students, volunteers, and community joined together to donate whenever they could and helped organize on-campus blood drives to facilitate these donations. The overwhelming generosity greatly supported this team allowing them to continue their work in serving our patients.
Employees in our laboratories have helped to foster innovation to better equip our departments with the goal to provide the best patient care possible. As part of the engine that drives our hospitals, these team members make a difference in the lives of our community each and every day.
