Printer showing “Toner Low”? Redistribute before replacing

Copy Printer

Please help us with our Print Savvy Initiative. This month’s tip is about the “Toner Low” warning.

The Toner Cartridge in a Laser Printer is capable of extended use beyond the period when the "Toner Low" warning messages begin to appear at your desktop.

The toner remaining in the cartridge will need to be redistributed as it approaches being empty. To redistribute the toner in the cartridge, carefully remove the toner cartridge and gently roll the cartridge from side to side and front to back. At that point, return the cartridge to the printer.

After the redistribution, the printer will generally produce good prints. The “Toner Low” message may or may not remain after the redistribution of the toner. Please ignore the message if the printer is still producing adequate copies. The message will be more persistent as the cartridge approaches empty. When the cartridge finally does hit empty, install a replacement.
