Thank you for everything you do each and every day to serve and protect the health of our community.
Outstanding achievement
In the midst of this challenging time, we want to pause and congratulate one of our valued team members for an outstanding recognition.
Loma Linda University Medical Center’s Chief of Quality and Patient Safety, Ihab Dorotta, MD, has received national recognition as one of 2020’s "50 Patient Safety Experts to Know," by Becker’s Hospital Review. Dr. Dorotta is the only patient safety expert in Southern California to receive the honor this year.
Under his leadership, Dr. Dorotta was able to help the team improve the hospital’s Leapfrog recognition to a Grade A hospital for both the University Hospital and East Campus Hospital two years in a row. His leadership also led the way for improving the hospital’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services quality rating score to a 3-star hospital.
We thank you, Dr. Dorotta for your commitment to quality care for our patients not just during this challenging time but all year long.
Employee Health & Workers Compensation
We support and appreciate our frontline caregivers. Our employees who have provided direct patient care to confirmed COVID-19 positive patients and who have become ill after providing care, will be approved for workers’ compensation benefits. Additionally, we will waive the normal three-day waiting period for workers’ compensation disability benefits.
Please note a few important items:
- Workers’ compensation benefits are defined by State statute and only apply to injury or illnesses that arise out of and occur in the course of employment.
- Communicable diseases such as COVID-19, seasonal influenza and other like viruses are generally not covered under the statutory workers’ compensation program; however, Loma Linda University Health is providing exceptions to this for frontline care providers treating COVID-19 patients.
- Employee to employee transmission is not covered by workers’ compensation
Employee Exposure
- Employee Health is tracking patients who are confirmed positive for COVID-19.
- Employee Health will contact employees who provided care to these patients and will direct these employees to call our Injury Reporting Hotline.
- If you believe you were exposed to a COVID-19 confirmed positive patient and have not been contacted and directed to the injury reporting hotline, please call Employee Health at x88797 or 909-558-8797 or COVID19_Employee_Health@llu.edu
- The Injury reporting Hotline will triage and direct appropriate care per CDC guidelines.

Please don’t forward your phone
Employees are asked not to forward their office or unit phones to their cell phones. Forwarding phones bogs down the Cisco system and can cause issues campus-wide. For alternatives to phone forwarding, you can put in a request in the Service Portal.
LLU Aid
To lighten the tremendous burden on Loma Linda University Health providers, several students from the School of Medicine have formed a platform called LLU Aid. This group coordinates and mobilizes students to support and serve the anticipatory, urgent needs of the entire LLUH workforce during this COVID-19 situation. They have launched this initiative with medical students, with a plan to expand to other Loma Linda University programs and have a list of students ready to serve. This project consists of a student volunteer-to-healthcare provider matching process where students can volunteer to help providers who request help with errands including grocery or food delivery, pet sitting, and/or wellness support such as, prayer, Bible study or check-ins.
All services as listed above are now available by student volunteers and forms for you to request support are online at lluaid.com. Please direct any questions or comments at lluaid2020@gmail.com.
