LLUFMG and LLU School of Medicine COVID-19 update

We again want to take the opportunity to reach out to LLU School of Medicine and LLUFMG clinical faculty. Each of you plays an important role in how we provide superior, safe care to our patients and education to our students during this time of increased vigilance. Thank you so much for all you are doing and will continue to do as we address the challenges of this COVID-19 situation. Given the dynamic nature of this situation, we continue to frequently update the site https://one.lluh.org/coronavirus (the LLUFMG / LLUHC tab) which is accessible either from campus or off campus using your ID and password. Your health and safety are paramount; here is the latest:

LLU Faculty Medical Group / LLU Health Care Clinical Care Update:

  • Effective today March 17, 2020, elective, non-urgent, surgeries and procedures are being cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. This includes imaging that requires anesthesiology support. Anesthesiology and surgical or referring physicians are to communicate as to the urgent nature of these interventions.
  • Effective today March 17, 2020, most clinic visits are being converted to telephone or video visit encounters. There are several new Tip Sheets regarding workflow changes.
  • My Chart, Short Message Service (SMS) and TeleVox messages are being updated to reflect these changes.
  • LLU Health Care administrative leadership is exploring the modification of “alternative work schedule” assignments.
  • Various positions, contingent on administrative approval and availability of adequate equipment, are initiating telecommuting assignments.
  • Latest Patient Screening / Testing Eligibility Guidelines
  • Testing, which requires a physician order, commenced outside the Redlands Boulevard Urgent and Primary Care facility on March 17, 2020. Over 25 tests have already been obtained and the venue will stay open till 10 PM.
  • Latest Employee Screening Guidelines
  • Latest Travel Restrictions
  • Visitor Policy
  • Refer to Department Head FAQ and Employee FAQ on COVID-19 page.

LLU School of Medicine Update:

  • The School of Medicine is following today’s AAMC recommendation that third-and fourth-year medical students restrict in-person clinical activities for a minimum of 2 weeks. This is starting today March 17, 2020 and students in the clinical areas have been advised to hand off their patients to the clinical team today. They will continue to complete their other course and clerkship requirements. Other plans are being set up to meet their educational requirements.
  • Preclinical medical student finals week for Winter Quarter is not occurring on-site due to more recent restrictions on keeping groups < 10. Students will be tested via a remote method.
  • Basic Science students who are lab-based will be communicated with by their specific program.
  • Spring Quarter will begin as scheduled, March 30; however, for the first four weeks most didactic-based courses will be taught online using Canvas and/or Zoom with specific accommodations addressing labs and active learning. This will remain at least through May 1.
  • LLU is tentatively planning to resume face-to-face classes on Monday, May 4.
  • All university offices and services will remain open and should be fully staffed; however, we are strongly encouraging social distancing practices.

Again, thank-you.
