New name for Employee and Student Counseling Services department

Employee & Student Counseling Services is the new name for the department formerly known as the Employee and Student Assistance Program. The change was made to clarify the ESCSs role as it serves the people of Loma Linda University Health.

We found people were often confused about what Assistance’ the ESAP offered,“said Jana Boyd, PhD, ESCS director. We would get requests for legal, financial, or academic counseling assistance, so we wanted to clarify that we provide mental health counseling services.”

ESCSs free services exist to help students and employees address their mental health needs including:

  • Crisis Intervention
  • Couples therapy
  • LGBTQ+ resources and support group
  • Individual therapy
  • Premarital therapy
  • Case management
  • Referrals to campus and community-based providers

Counseling is not a miracle remedy but can help someone deal with challenging circumstances,” Boyd said. “Counselors can serve as an objective person outside of someone's daily life who can help reduce the impact of stresses on wellbeing.”

The Employee and Student Counseling Service offices are at 11360 Mountain View Avenue in the Hartford Building, Suite A. Their phone number is 909-5558-6050, and office hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Fridays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn more here.
