New CA protected unpaid bereavement leave

Effective January 1, 2023, California law requires employers to provide up to 5 days of protected, unpaid leave upon the death of a covered family member. Search Policy Tech to view your entity's updated bereavement leave policy here.

Loma Linda University Health strives to provide work-life balance for all employees and recognizes the need to support employees who have experienced the death of a family member. Employees can utilize the Employee Assistance Program for confidential counseling and support services. In addition to the new legislative unpaid leave, we will continue to provide paid bereavement leave benefits for covered family members of up to 24 hours for full-time benefit-eligible employees, and up to 16 hours for part-time benefit-eligible employees.

Employees can submit for paid and unpaid leave in API. Follow the how-to-guide for step-by-step directions.

LLUMC-M employees can add Bereavement, Bereavement PTO or Bereavement Unpaid by using the Other Pay tab at the clock in JB DEV.
