Join us in celebrating Health Information Professionals Week

Health Information Professionals Week, April 17-21, is a weeklong recognition of the team that manages patient health information. This annual celebration reminds us of their role in supporting the provision of health care across the whole Loma Linda University Health system.

The health information professionals’ team is a valuable asset to LLUH, strategically positioned at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and business. This team has a comprehensive view of healthcare delivery with ongoing contributions to many parts of healthcare operations.

Health information professionals' services include the following:

  • Collecting, processing, and sharing patient information
  • Coding for hospital reimbursement
  • Data abstraction contributing to quality metrics
  • Document imaging (scanning) of clinical patient information
  • Record integrity management per regulatory requirements
  • Data analytics
  • Privacy and security

The team's process improvement collaborations with many operations across the LLUH system have fostered excellent working relationships resulting in numerous successful process improvement outcomes.

Here are some operational volume stats representing the calendar year 2022:

  • Medical record requests fulfilled 93,350 = 10,410,738 pages (electronic/paper)
  • Total pages of clinical information scanned: 4,374,200 = 1,297 feet of paper
  • Duplicate medical record numbers worked: 86,031
  • Total medical records analyzed: 802,948
  • Total accounts coded: 416,391
  • Phone calls handled: 68,657
  • Death certificates processed: 1,529
  • LLUH administrative committee memberships: 42

The expansion of technology in healthcare is driving many of the innovations occurring in their space, such as evolving electronic medical records, sharing information with patients and providers using currently available technologies, and the continued sensitivities around ensuring the privacy and security of patient information. As a result, the team of health information professionals has incorporated AI solutions and other technology initiatives in their operations to keep up with best practices around quality, efficiency, and operational cost containment.

Join us in celebrating their triumphs and ongoing success as they continue supporting clinical, business, and technology operations at LLUH.
