Issue with BBraun Space Station pump docks

Situation – Patient Safety related concerns regarding BBraun Infusomat and BBraun Perfusor pumps used in a BBraun Space Station – docking/charging system. The pumps may have an incorrect drug library downloaded into the pumps.
Background – An Incorrect drug library, named “PICU Drug Library” is being downloaded into pumps through random BBraun Space Stations throughout the Loma Linda enterprise. These pumps are not broken, but cannot be used by staff, because of the incorrect drug library.
Assessment – This impact’s clinical use of the pumps for patients when various drugs are not available for infusion. Biomed Services has determined a quick and permanent fix for the BBraun Space Station, that will eliminate removal of the pumps and Space Stations from the clinical environment. This will mitigate any future downloads of incorrect drug libraries to pumps.
Recommendation – Please follow the following instructions for any BBraun Infusomat IV pump, Perfusor syringe pump, or Space Station – charging dock that is determined to be downloading the “PICU Drug Library” into pumps:
- CONTACT: BIOMED SERVICES ON-CALL at Pager 6044 or call the Hospital Operator and ask to page Biomed Services On-Call staff.
- DO NOT remove the pumps from the affected BBraun Space Station. Leave all pumps installed.
- DO NOT install any additional pumps into the affected BBraun Space Station.
- DO NOT move or separate pumps from the affected BBraun Space Station.
- DO NOT send the affected equipment to DECON/Central Service for Biomed to service.
