Let our words encourage all members from all generations on our team.

Daily we hear media bemoaning the trials of modern life—too much to do: no time to accomplish it all; constant flux and change; generations trying to cancel each other. The list goes on and on. But what if we looked at things from a different perspective. What if some of these concerns could actually turn out to be strengths and blessings.

Today, let's delve into the timeless wisdom found in the correspondence between the seasoned apostle Paul with his young protégée Timothy. Through Paul’s encouragement to Timothy, we can find direction and encouragement for us to embrace our unique identities across the five generations present on our campus — from the Builders to Gen Z — and to reflect on how doing so aligns with Loma Linda University's motto: "To continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ."

"Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity" (1 Timothy 4:12 NLT).

This verse speaks directly to the diversity of generations that coexist within our community, urging us to set positive examples through our words, actions, and values, mirroring the essence of Loma Linda University Health's mission.

Let's start by honoring the Builders, whose wisdom and experience form the foundation of our institution. Their dedication to excellence and compassionate care exemplifies the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ. We can learn from their stories and emulate their steadfastness in providing holistic care to our patients.

The Boomers, known for their determination and perseverance, inspire us to tackle challenges with resilience and a strong sense of purpose, embodying the spirit of Jesus' healing ministry. Their leadership and expertise guide us as we strive for personal and professional growth, equipping us to serve others with compassion and skill.

Moving to the Gen Xers, we discover a generation characterized by adaptability, innovation, and independent thinking — traits that align with Jesus' teaching ministry. Their ability to navigate change and think creatively fuels our progress and inspires new ways of addressing healthcare challenges with empathy and effectiveness.

The Millennials bring a spirit of collaboration, inclusivity, and technological proficiency to our community, reflecting Jesus' approach of inclusivity and love for all. Their passion for making a difference and their emphasis on social responsibility remind us of the importance of inclusive and holistic care and advocacy for our patients' well-being.

Lastly, the Gen Z members, with their fresh perspectives and digital fluency, challenge us to embrace diversity and embrace the future with optimism, mirroring Jesus' message of hope and transformation. Their commitment to social justice and environmental sustainability motivates us to embody Jesus' teachings of justice and stewardship in our care practices.

As we come together as a diverse yet united community, let's embody the values of 1 Timothy 4:12 and Loma Linda University Health's motto in our interactions and endeavors. Let our words uplift and encourage, our actions inspire and reflect Jesus' love, our love be genuine and inclusive, our faith unwavering, and our pursuit of purity rooted in humility and authenticity, all while continuing the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ in our care for one another and our patients.
