AI tool will help physicians respond to patients’ emails

Epic, MyChart’s developer, has partnered with Microsoft to integrate a tool known as ChatGPT that will draft responses to questions about patient symptoms, medications and other issues. Loma Linda University Health is an early adopter organization utilizing this artificial intelligence (AI) tool to assist doctors with a timely response to patients’ questions about their care submitted through MyChart, the patient portal.
One of just 51 organizations nationwide piloting the AI tool.
Once a patient message is opened, physicians will see the original query and the AI-generated draft response. Physicians will review the draft, modify it as necessary and send the personalized response back to the patient. These auto-generated drafts will help physicians reply quicker.
LLUH will continue to leverage innovative technologies that help make things better for providers and patients.
