Daily COVID-19 Update

Visitation Policy

The visitation policy for all adult hospitals except the BMC and Murrieta changed on June 8 to allow for one screened visitor a day for a visit of up to 30 minutes. We will also allow one visitor to accompany a patient for a test or surgery, but they must wait in the lobby. Additional humanitarian exceptions will be routed to the Chief of Staff or her designee.

In addition, no visitors are allowed for patients under investigation for COVID-19 or patients who test positive for COVID-19 at any time. We will make every effort to connect the patients with their family/caregiver virtually when possible.

Children’s Hospital visitor restrictions

Children’s Hospital will now allow two visitors at the bedside at a time. Visitors will be screened at the Grand Hallway, and a second screening will be completed on the unit with an added temperature check. Once screened, they will receive a green band. Bands will be removed if a visitor leaves the hospital, and they will have to rescreen upon entry. For PUI and COVID-19 positive patients, only one family member is allowed, and they cannot leave the room. If they leave, they are not allowed to return until cleared negative or the patient is discharged.

Please note, Maternity Services has additional guidelines in place for their specific area that will be communicated directly to those patients.

California now requires masks for high-risk situations throughout state

Governor Newsom’s state-wide mandate on June 18 declared that masks or face coverings must be worn in all high-risk situations. All employees must adhere to this while in work areas unless alone in a private office. Please continue to social distance as much as possible, even while wearing a mask. Additionally, face coverings or home-made masks should be worn between the parking lot and the employee entrance when coming and going from work in all areas. The California Department of Public Health provides additional guidance for the use of face coverings.

Masking for non-patient care employees:

  • For non-clinical areas, masks do not need to be medical grade; fabric masks or bandanas are acceptable alternatives.
  • Education for how to properly place and wear PPE can be found in Blue Book. Employees can also visit the CDC page.
  • Masks should cover from the nose to below the chin, and fit snuggly against the side of the face.
  • Be sure to wash your fabric mask in hot water after each use
