Daily COVID-19 Update

Annual TB Testing Postponed

Effective immediately Employee Health Services will postpone the Annual TB/Clearance until further notice. This will apply to all Loma Linda University Health entities.

Our goal is to provide safe customer service to all of our employees. With concerns of the recent trends of the COVID-19 pandemic we will postpone the Annual TB’s Testing/Clearance based on the following:

  • We do not want to put health care personnel at risk of any additional potential exposures to COVID-19  by having more contact points, such as Employee Health Services in addition to their work locations.
  • The risk of postponing the annual TB Testing/Clearance is low.
  • Employee health services will continue to follow up on any TB exposures as well as responding to the large numbers of employees who will experience COVID-19 exposures.
  • Due to high volumes of suspected or COVID-19 positive patients, our health care providers need to prioritize and focus on providing patient care.
  • Department Directors will continue to receive the monthly TB reports from Employee Health Services. This will be sent as a reminder so that Directors will have an idea of who will be postponed.

Please feel free to contact Valerie Taylor at ext. 50265

Masking for non-patient care employees

Health officials are now recommending people cover their nose and mouth when leaving their homes for essential travel during the coronavirus outbreak. In an effort to proactively protect the healthcare industry supply, the recommendation specified that face coverings do not have to be medical grade. Bandanas and fabric masks are acceptable alternatives. It is critical that we keep our surgical mask and N95 for our frontline healthcare teams.

Employees that work in non-clinical support service areas such as human resources, finance, etc. are asked to please bring a mask or face covering from home.

Shepardson shuttle service

The shuttle service from the Shepardson parking lot is now discontinued until further notice.

Vehicle Escort update

In our continuing efforts to provide a healthy environment for our staff, visitors and patients, Security will be suspending vehicle escorts until further notice.

However, your safety remains our highest priority. If you would like a walking security escort, a Security Officer would be happy to meet you and escort you to an on-campus destination while practicing social distancing.

For these security services or other security concerns please contact Security Control Center at ext. 44320 or 909-558-4320.

East Campus Cafeteria changes

Effective Friday, April 3, the East Campus Cafeteria will be closing at 7:30 pm until further notice. As a result of the earlier closure, nutritional services will provide snacks and beverages to each unit for all staff working the NOC shift.

The new hours will be as follows:

Monday - Friday
7 am - 7:30pm

Saturday - Sunday
9 am - 7:30pm

Please note that there are no changes to the patient nutritional services at the East Campus.

Hospital-provided scrubs

In times of crisis, it is easy to let frustration and stress get the better of us. Below are some reminders and guidelines for those providers working in COVID positive or PUI areas who wish to continue to borrow scrubs provided by Administration. Specifics for Murrieta will be sent by campus leadership.

Borrowing Scrubs:

  • Providers and clinical staff have been cleared to borrow scrubs IF they are working in a COVID positive or PUI area, or if they are required to enter COVID positive or PUI patient rooms to provide care such as VAD/TPN.
  • Please remove PPE such as shoe coverings and gowns, (masks should stay on), before walking into the locker room to borrow and change into scrubs.
  • Only ONE set of scrubs will be allowed per person. We are unable to make exceptions.

Returning Scrubs:

  • Borrowed scrubs are to be returned to Locker Room A and placed into the bin after changing. If providers are changing outside Locker Room A, scrubs are to be properly bagged and carried back to the locker room and placed in the laundry bins.  Please do not return scrubs into the Cintas machines under any circumstances.

Color options:

  • Available scrubs, colors and sizes are dependent upon what is returned. At times, color options and sizes may not be the first choice of the provider; please take the next best size or color.

Scrub machine access:

  • There is no change to our usual process for obtaining scrubs from Linen. For those employees who are authorized to do so, using the scrub machines is allowed. Unauthorized users of the scrub machines must utilize the appropriate workflow through our Linen department.

Defacing signs

  • Handwriting on any sign in the hospital is not allowed. If you need to request signage or corrections to signage, please contact the command center at lluhcc@llu.edu.
